Growing With Green - February 27, 2017

On Thursday we had our annual Readathon kick-off.  The Readthon was conceived by parents years ago as a fun way to encourage reading throughout the school. Each year parents work tirelessly and endlessly to come up with an exciting theme. This year’s theme is “Twisted Tales.” The Readathon will take place for three weeks from Thursday, February 23 through Thursday, March 16. Last week on Thursday and Friday, we read with the children for 20 minutes each day. Just add up these minutes onto your child’s log for those days. In fact, from now on, you’re welcome to add the 20 minutes of in-class reading time to your child’s log daily. Please make every effort to read to, or with, your child twenty minutes a day for five days a week.

This week we are beginning our investigation of the five senses.  We will be learning about the biological components of our senses and how they function.  We will also begin our unit on Poetry.  We will learn that poetry is a special way of writing.  We will begin with “Beautiful Objects,” and looking at the world through “poet’s eyes.”  We are working with the letter “O,” which is for Olive Octopus. We will be learning the sight word “with.”

Conferences are coming up soon. Please see the attached letter for the specific date and time that you signed up for. Please return the tear-off as soon as possible.

We are looking forward to a wonderful, action-packed week!  :)
