Growing With Green - March 27, 2017

This year’s Readathon was a tremendous success!  We had 98% participation school wide. We beat past readathons by 15, 000 minutes. The children at Open School read 521,463 minutes!  Yay for reading!!!!

We enjoyed seeing all of you at your child’s parent conference.  We loved celebrating your child’s progress together.

The 24th generation of silkworms eggs have arrived!  We will be observing their growth and metamorphosis and keeping a science journal to track changes for the remainder of the year

We are continuing to work on our poetry unit by beginning our “Beautiful Objects” poem.  We are using our five senses and continuing to look at the world through “poet’s eyes.” Your child’s poem will be published in the Open Thoughts Anthology at the end of the year.

We are looking forward to our field trip to the Skirball Cultural Center. WE WILL BE PROVIDING A SNACK FOR YOUR CHILD. Please send your child with a lunch that includes a drink. We will be having lunch on the UCLA quad. It should be a wonderful day!!

The children will be making beautiful “spring” baskets to use for our Spring Egg Hunt. They will choose between making ladybugs, flowers or butterflies.  We will be having our annual Green Cluster Spring Egg Hunt on Friday, April 21.  Next week, we will start asking for plastic eggs and egg stuffers.  Make sure that you send in 48 items so that we will have a classroom set.  We hope that you can help stuff the eggs the week of April 17th, and then join us for the hunt on Friday, April 21st. More information to follow next week.

Thank you again for all of your continued support.  :)
