Day 8

Good morning Outstanding Orange Cluster Families,

Well, it is “hump day” and we hope you are all healthy and hanging in there!
Today’s schedule is similar to yesterday’s.
Language Arts in the morning - Reader’s Workshop and then Writer’s Workshop.
For Reader’s Workshop, make sure your child is as close to caught up in the Lemonade War as possible so they are ready for our Zoom meeting tomorrow. The schedule for what they should have read is on the front cover of their Lemonade War packet - read chapters 1 through 11. Go over the packet with them as well. They do not necessarily need to write out all the answers to all the questions, but should be able to answer the questions if asked.
If you are in need of reading sources, Audible is free for 30 days : https://www.audible.com

Also, some of your children have been on Epic https://www.getepic.com. You can also look through there to find some books as well. The Read-to-Me (RTM) portion is great because they can see the words as the app reads the story to them.
For Writer’s Workshop, make sure their spelling packet and word wall are finished and if possible, please go over the work with them. They should have completed page 7 in their paragraph packet as well. (We skipped page 3  of the paragraph packet - that page can still be skipped, but all the other pages from 1 - 7 should be done). If there is time, then they can also work in Lexia.

After recess is math. If they were with Mr. Lietz and Mrs. Granick on Tuesday, then they are with Ms. Maye today. So, Ambassadors and Envoys would be exploring area and perimeter. You can find this in Khan Academy.
The Diplomats and Patriots would be with Mr. Lietz and Mrs. Granick today investigating multiplication. Again, there are several multiplication activities in Khan Academy.
For both math areas, you can explore how they are used in the real world - why do they need to know area, perimeter, and multiplication?

Wednesday ends with our science/social studies block. Attached you will find a pdf of history lessons - learning about history through our family and artifacts. This is definitely not a typical assignment for the Open School - it is a little more “old school.” However, it connects really well with what we are studying in Orange Cluster. Have your child spend a little time reading the first lesson and exploring the workbook portion of the lesson.
We know these days have been challenging and we appreciate your patience during this time. We have been meeting as a staff to work through “remote learning.” We will start Zoom lessons and other online platforms for learning, but we do not have a start date yet. We know that some of you are anxiously awaiting these lessons, but the earliest they might start is next week. We will let you know as soon as have a specific date.

Finally, you have probably received a SignUp Genius reminder of your conference time. Please ignore the reminder. We are working on what will happen with conferences this year. Report cards will be going out the beginning of April.
Again, there is a lot of activity happening behind the scenes in order to find ways to best support your child’s learning moving forward.

Thank you all for the love and support!

Best Wishes,
Anne & Tracey
