Classroom News

This weekly news is coming home early, as the teachers are going on a retreat tomorrow after school and we won’t be able to send this then.  Also, as we’re on the field trip next Friday, there won’t be a weekly news sent next week (unless we manage to get one out on Wednesday).

Today we are sending home another copy of the original packing list as well as a carpool list.  Please look over the carpool list carefully and let us know if there are any changes.  There are a lot of people driving, some of whom may wish to combine with other cars.  We are fine with whatever driving arrangements get made, but we do need to know what they are, so if you make changes, please email us as soon as possible.  If you haven’t yet talked to your carpool driver, please do so this weekend to confirm plans and find out about timing and where your child will be taken at the end of the trip.

Also going home today is a release form for children whose parents aren’t coming on the trip, giving your child’s carpool driver permission to take your child at the end of the day and formally giving or denying permission for your child to go on roller coasters after the school day is over.  Please sign this paper and return in on Monday so we can make sure we have everything we need before we go.  If there is a parent on the trip, we don’t need any of these forms from you.

Tent lists will go home on Monday, along with baggage tags for all luggage (including sleeping bags) so it can all be easily identified.  Please be sure all belongings are clearly labeled!!  We do allow students to bring electronics for the car ride, if that is okay with parents, but they are not allowed to be brought into the park, so they must stay locked up in the cars overnight.  Cameras are fine, but, again, please label them somehow in case they are left somewhere.  Also, when you are packing, pay attention to the weather.  Long pants and a sweatshirt or jacket will most likely be wanted for the evening and we would like the Yellow Cluster shirts to be worn at Legoland, though yellow shirts on both days is great, too.  Many students really like having water bottles (though few of them actually like to carry them...)

We still need quite a few drivers in order for us to be able to make our Dav Pilkey field trip on October 27th work.  We need to get all 48 students to and from the train station, and we currently have rides for 12 of them.  We’re especially needing some minivans, as we can only bring an extra 11 adults, so if all of our cars hold only 3 kids, we won’t have enough room.  We’re also fine with people who are able to just drive us to the station and pick us up at the end, but can’t (or don’t want to) go on the actual trip.

Book orders are due on Friday, October 14th, but as the order won’t be placed until Sunday, you actually have until Saturday night to place your orders online.

Scholastic News:  This week we will just be sending home a Science Spin magazine and no map.  This is only a two page magazine, with a few questions on the back, which we thought would be more appropriate given our field trip time away.  It will be due on October 25th.

Problem of the Week:  We will be starting our sequence of problems finding and using patterns in order to arrive at the solution.  Many of these problems also involve very careful reading of what is being asked so you can figure out what part of the pattern you need to look at to answer the question that is being asked.  It will be due on Tuesday, 10/25th.

Word Study:  The octagons and heptagons have their work due, and their spelling test, on Tuesday, October 18th, with new work being given to them which will be due November 1st.  The pentagons’ and hexagons’ work is due on Tuesday, October 25th.

Typing Club and Tynker can be done at home, too!

Expiration Date:
