Growing With Green - May 1, 2017

We had such a wonderful Open House!  We loved seeing all of you and sharing all of the Green Cluster projects with you.  We are very proud of the progress that your children have made this year.

We are continuing our work with shapes and are working on 3D shapes. The children have been hunting through the classroom for objects in the shape of spheres, cones, cubes, cylinders, and even rectangular prisms.

Our silkworms are growing in leaps and bounds. The students run into the classroom each morning to see how much they’ve grown. We are anxiously awaiting the day when they begin to cocoon.

We have learned so much about sight and the anatomy of our eyes. Ask your child about what he/ she learned and try to answer the questions on the attached sheet.

In honor of Earth Day, we are busy creating beautiful Earth Day books. You will receive these projects back at the end of the year.

Last Friday, April 28th, we met a former Open School student, Spencer Dinwiddie. He is currently an NBA player for the Brooklyn Nets. He answered questions that students had. He also talked about how both an education and perseverance are important tools for reaching your goals.

We are beginning our unit on money, in preparation for Shopping Day.  Shopping Day will take place on Thursday, May 25, from 8:30 - 10:30 a.m.  We will provide the children with $1.00 worth of coins to shop with, so please do not send in money.  We will need lots of shopkeepers, so please save the date to become one of our shopkeepers.  It is one of our favorite activities of the year . . . so “Come on down and Shop ‘til you drop!”

Thank you again to all of the parents who come in to help us in the classroom and to help with breakfast.  We make a great team!!  :)
