Announcing this year's JOG-A-THON

What is the Jog-a-thon?

The Jog-a-thon is one of the students’ favorite Open School events. Each Cluster will have a timed period in which students will walk, jog or run as many laps as they can around the school track. The students will have ample warm-up and cool-down time and will also be provided with plenty of water and post-run snacks. This is a great, exercise-oriented event that involves students, teachers, parents, friends and family, and helps raise money for our school through pledges collected by the students. The theme for this year’s Jog-a-thon is “Put your best foot forward!”

When is the Jog-a-thon?

The Jog-a-thon itself will take place on Friday, June 2. Individual Clusters will run throughout the day, with a break for recess, and finishing by lunchtime. All Clusters will participate in a school-wide celebration ice cream party after lunch. Fundraising for the Jog-a-thon kicks off on Tuesday, May 16.

How do students raise pledges?

Students can ask neighbors, friends and family to support them on a per lap basis, or straight-pledge basis. You can turn in pledges using the paper pledge form or donations can be submitted online.  Students will earn awesome prizes by turning in pledges on the three pledge collection days. There will also be prizes awarded to the children who raise the most pledges in each Cluster, and the top three pledge-earners for the whole school. Additional opportunities to earn prizes will be announced throughout the Jog-a-thon pledge collection period. The three pledge collection days are:

1)  Tuesday May 23

2)  Friday May 26

3)  Thursday June 1

What is the Jog-a-thon essay and art contest?

The essay and art contest is a way for the students to express what the Jog-a-thon theme means to them personally. This year, we are asking them to explore what it means to put your best foot forward, or be your “best self” through their writing and artwork. Essays and artwork will be judged by a panel of teachers and specialists, and the children will have an opportunity to earn great prizes. Essays should be no more than one page, artwork should use a paper medium, and no more than one entry per child. There will be one artwork and essay winner from grades K-2 and one artwork and essay winner from grades 3-5. All art and essays will be due on Tuesday, May 30.

How can you prepare your child for Jog-a-thon day?

Please ensure your child has a nutritious breakfast and comes to school well hydrated on June 2. (Breakfast in the classroom will be served that day, as usual). Please be sure your child wears comfortable shoes (sneakers are recommended) and weather-appropriate clothing. We strongly encourage the children to wear their Cluster shirts or Cluster colors to show cluster and school spirit.

Is there an opportunity for parents to be involved in the event?

Absolutely! Family and friends are encouraged and welcome to come join the fun the day of the Jog-a-thon. Come by and cheer on all of our amazing students as they put their best foot forward. We can also use many volunteers in the days leading up to the event and on the day of the event. Please keep an eye out for the Sign Up Genius which will be emailed out soon, take a look, and volunteer when and how you can. Helping hands are always needed!
