Growing With Green - October 9, 2017

Last week we had such a wonderful trip to the Los Angeles Zoo and Travel Town.  The weather was beautiful, and we had fun!   Thank you to the all the parents and grandparents who accompanied us on the trip!

This week we will be introducing our Writing Workshop, based on the Writing Workshop Program from Columbia University.  We will be learning about different genres of writing throughout the year. Last week, the students created their Writing Workshop folder. During the next lessons will be discussing the elements of storytelling. We will be learning the short sounds of “f” and “g.”  “F is for Frannie Fish,” and “G is for Gordo Gorilla.”  We are learning the sight word “this.”  We are continuing to read with the children in homogeneous groups.  Many of the children have been reading in booklets we have created, that highlight our sight words. Learning sight words helps to improve reading fluency. We are learning to use our book as a resource to complete our reading follow-ups and we are beginning to sound out words and/or beginning to write sentences.
