Weekly News - February 8, 2019

February 8, 2019

Object help needed!  We’re working on objects all day on Monday and 2/3rds of the day on Friday and would love extra adult help.  If you can come any time from 9:00 - 10:25 on Monday, or 10:45 - 12:15, or 1:00 - 2:30 on Monday or Friday, we would really, really love the support.  We’re also getting more and more cardboard that needs to be cut, so please check in if you have time in the mornings (or any other time).  The students can’t put together their costumes until they are cut out, so please come and help us out!

There is no band on Monday, so if your child plays an instrument on Mondays, he/she will not need to bring the instrument this Monday, February 11th.

We sent home conference scheduling notes today.  We’re using the same schedule as November, so please see if that time still works for you and let us know.  We’ve told the students that bringing this back on Monday will earn them a $5 Yellow Cluster bonus, so help your child earn that extra money!

Valentine’s Day is next Thursday.  We ask that if students are bringing valentines, that they bring one for everyone.  They don’t need to be personally addressed, but it is very, very helpful to have roll call numbers 1-48 (minus your child’s own number) written on the outside of the envelopes.  This makes it easier to pass the valentines out and make sure that one gets put into everyone’s bag.

We still need a lot more food for our Open School Day feast, as well as people to help set it up and clean it up afterwards.  We haven’t received very many of the sign ups back, so if you haven’t sent it in and are planning on sending food in, please send in that paper as soon as possible.

Denise was really busy with object building and then payday today and didn’t get notes written on the goals, or even the goals put into mailboxes for Blue and Green Teams.  They will go home on Monday instead.  Sorry about that!

Homework

Scholastic News and Maps: The latest magazine is about a girl who used 3D printing to make a prosthetic arm for herself.  The map that goes with the article has an additional assignment on the back, so please help your child remember to do both sides.  The magazine and map (both sides) are due Thursday, February 14th.

Weekly Problems:  Please remember that we’re asking you to not help your child with the weekly problems until they have given it a real attempt on their own.  We will not be providing help until Tuesday, and that is limited help as well.  We will still be going over the problem when we correct homework on Thursdays, so everyone will see how to solve it, but we think it is really important that they develop the confidence to read a problem, think about what they might have to do, give it a shot, and then evaluate their answers to see if it fits the problem - all independently.  This week’s problem is due on Thursday, February 14th.

Word Study:  The octagons and heptagons have their work due on Thursday, February 14th.  The pentagons and hexagons received work this week, so their work is due on Thursday, February 21st.
