Weekly News - May 3, 2019

May 3, 2019

If you haven’t filled out and sent in your child’s trip slip and other attached forms, please do so by Monday so that we can organize our rides and make sure we can get all of the students to and from the train station.

Next week our fourth graders will be doing the English Language Arts test on Tuesday and Wednesday.  Then, the next week, we will do math with the third graders on Tuesday and Wednesday, 5/14 and 5/15, and with the fourth graders on Thursday and Friday, 5/16 and 5/17. Please make sure your child gets a good night’s sleep and a healthy breakfast and arrives to school on time.  If you usually volunteer on any day that we are testing, you will be helping outside with our students who are not testing, so please still come in. We have plenty of jolly ranchers for testing treats, but the students are requesting more Werthers and life savers and mints.  :)

Please continue to send in boxes, lots and lots of small boxes.  Nothing bigger than a cereal box is needed.  We love boxes from things like granola bars, macaroni and cheese, and toothpaste.  Please don’t send in anything that can’t be cut with regular scissors.

Scholastic News and Map: In this week’s work, the students are finding the main idea and details in an article about the transcontinental railroad.  The magazine and map are due on Thursday, 5/9.

Problem of the Week:  This one involves using logic with fractions.  We highly recommend a drawing if your child is stuck.  It’s due on Thursday, 5/2.

Building Permits:  We are hoping that our city gets mapped out on Monday and that we then teach the students about how to do a building permit.  Once that happens, we will be sending building permits home to be completed.  It is really, really, really important that these get done at home and in a timely manner so that everyone can spend their class time building instead of making permits.  Especially in the beginning, permits can take awhile, so please help your child plan and budget his/her time accordingly.  Each building has to have a completed and approved permit before it can be built and we are hoping to be building on Thursday and Friday.
