Principals' Message: Safety Drills

Dear Open School Families:

The safety and welfare of our students and staff are our highest priorities. To provide Open School an opportunity to practice emergency response procedures, we had a Lockdown Drill this past Tuesday. A lockdown is necessary when the threat of imminent danger arises or when directed by law enforcement. We inherently believe, as I'm sure you do, that our precious children should be shielded from the issues that are facing our society. However, in doing our best to keep everyone safe, conducting this drill is at the heart of preparing our children as much as possible. Please know that all conversations with each cluster were on an age appropriate basis. We want to equip our students with the tools to act swiftly if necessary, not to instill fear.

Please make sure that all contact information for your child is current, so that in the event of an actual emergency, we can reach you.  You can also review Open's Emergency Handbook that was sent at the beginning of the year. Throughout the school year we also practice many other safety procedures, including earthquake, shelter in place and fire drills. There are different detailed procedures for all of these preparedness activities.

If you have any questions or need further information, please do not hesitate to call our school office at 310-568-0735.

In Partnership,
