December 6, 2019

Hi everyone,

Thank you to everyone who came and helped out at payday.  We needed you and really, really appreciate you giving the time to help our students!

Family Math Night is this coming Tuesday, from 6 -7:30.  Friends will be selling pizza before hand, though so come early!  Everyone will be meeting in the auditorium at 6 and then moving to clusters to play some math games and have some fun.  We’re going to pull out our Thinking Games that the kids already know and add in some brand new, person-size games.  Think a game like Chinese Checkers with people as the pegs! It’s going to be a ton of fun!  It would be really helpful for us to get an idea of how many people are coming, so please email us at yellow.clusteratme.com to let us know if you’re coming.

Book orders went home this week and are due by next Friday.  The books won’t arrive before the holiday break, but we wanted to be sure to give everyone the opportunity to order.

Speaking of books, thank you so much for all of the wonderful book donations from the Book Fair!  We are thrilled to be adding so many great books to our library and our kids can’t wait for us to get them processed and on our shelves.

Winter Concert:  Please have your child work on memorizing our songs.  They don’t all know them yet.  We don’t need them to wear anything special for the concert, so there’s no need to worry about that.  Often orchestra or band does ask the students to wear specific colors, so please check in with your child about that.

The students were given the chance to pick up a form to try out for Open Expressions.  They need your permission to do that, so if your child is planning on trying out, please ask about the form and help them make sure it makes it back to us by the deadline.

Scholastic News:  This week the magazine is highlighting two historical mysteries - what happened to the colonists at Roanoke and what happened to the dinosaurs.  The students are to pick one of the mysteries, write down what the article is proposing as a potential solution to it, and find the evidence that the article is sharing that supports that solution.  They are due on Friday, December 13th.

Problem of the Week:  This week the students are arranging colored circles in a given shape so that circles of the same color don’t touch.  We’re going to have some similar games out at Family Math Night!  If your child gets it fairly easily, challenge him / her to try and find a different solution on the back.  It is due on Friday, December 13th.
