Good Morning Indigo Families!

How was Day 2 of Remote Learning?  We hope you are all doing well and that your child is beginning to adapt to week 1 of our at home learning program.  We trust you all received the emails yesterday (there were 3 of them) and that you found them helpful in helping to facilitate your child’s learning. Honestly, it helps to have the sun out for everyone to enjoy. Take some time to enjoy the blue skies and sunshine today!

Today’s Highlights:

  • Today is the 125th day of school.  Ask your child how many ways they can represent the number 125. We’ve done this in class before with other numbers. Think of place value, visual representations or models of the number or its equivalent, equations using addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, fractions, and whatever their great math minds come up with. It just must be the same as 125.
  • In addition, if your child would like to play math games during their math block, here are some suggestions you can play with a deck of cards, check out this link: https://www.newarkschools.us/Downloads/Math%20Games%20with%20a%20Deck%20of%20Cards.pdf

  • Hopefully your child is using the Fraction Review questions to continue our focus on fractions. We will have a review of the first three by the end of the week, platform to be determined and communicated tomorrow. If you really want to work with some fractions, get in that kitchen and help cook something. Fractions are everywhere when we cook! Whatever you decide to do today make sure you have fun doing it!

  • *Wednesday and Thursday are typically the days we do Wonder and Exploration time in the afternoon (though it is often embedded throughout the day as well) so today would be a good afternoon to get started on exploring the planets.

Helpful Resources:

*NASA Space Place-A great resource to explore planets and all things space.

Please know that we are here to answer questions and provide support. We will share your frequently asked questions here. We miss your children and their smiling faces. Send us a photo or two of your home learning activities via email.  Enjoy Day 3!

Frequently Asked Questions(Either ones that were asked, or that you might want to ask!):

*Can I give my child a break during the learning block?

Absolutely!  Give them breaks as needed.  This is a new platform for them so they will need to build their stamina in this environment.

*Can I take a break as needed?

Please do mom and dad!!!!! You can declare a break at any time to make sure you remain calm and can continue to have a positive experience with your child.  You are embarking on a different kind of relationship with your child and it might take time to adjust.  We are speaking from experience....it doesn't even matter that mom is a teacher....if we are not their teacher at school, we are mom!  It might be helpful to have a dedicated space to work in to help with the transition to the new role.
