Happy First Day of Spring Indigo Families and Happy Thursday!

As you know, we start the day on Thursdays with our community gathering for assembly. Can I suggest that today, you acknowledge your child for a specific thing that he/she/they has done this week that has been helpful, creative, shown perseverance, or whatever you'd like . We always find increased pride and cooperation follows such acknowledgements whether in front of the whole school or one on one.

Thursdays are particularly happy in Indigo. We see all of our Specialists and participate in Coach, Music, and Art. In addition, we have a 45 minute math block in the morning and Wonder and Exploration time in the afternoon. Use one of the options already provided during the math block. One thing we want to clarify and students already know this and probably shared, when we find as many ways to represent a number, we use a circle map to record our ideas of equivalence with the number or concept in the middle. Circle maps are an easy to create resource to use when brainstorming anything or recording general ideas and explorations. A circle map was included in the Continuity of Learning Packet as related to research on a planet of choice. And speaking of planet research, did you check out the NASA Space Place link? It's awesome right!? Keep that one saved because we will be coming back to it a lot!

Also, in Ms Cass' Supporting One Another: Remote Learning  March 17, 2020 and March 18, 2020 she shared fantastic resources for Art from Ms. Nichole, PE from Coach Jolyene, and Music from Mr. Cline. These are fantastic resources and suggestions. We are so thankful to our amazing Specialists! Enjoy implementing them at home or whatever creative and physical expressions you choose.

Today's Highlights

  • We would like to meet any interested students through an online platform called Zoom tomorrow morning at 10:00 am. We will send you an invitation and you will have to go on the website: https://zoom.us  Once there click on “Join a Meeting”  and type in the invitation code. We will be able to see and hear one another. Before you join, please read the Internet Etiquette (“Netiquette” for short) with your child. We expect all participants to follow Open School's Netiquette so we can have a positive online experience. Thank you and keep an eye out for the invitation to join! Looking forward to seeing you tomorrow

“N”etiquette:

  • We Respect Ourselves:  Be ready to share with your classmates.  That means that everyone can see and hear everyone else, so make sure you are sitting in a place where it is quiet enough so you can hear what others have to say and you are dressed ready for the day.  You should not be walking around your house with your device.
  • We Respect Others:  Be ready to listen. If you want to talk, please raise your hand and wait for the teacher to call upon you. If everyone is talking at once it will be hard to hear.  If you have siblings or pets, please make sure they are not walking in front of the camera. Our discussions include everyone. This is not a time for one-on-one conversations.
  • We Respect the Environment:  Meeting online is a new experience and we are in a new environment. We are also going to be in each other's "homes." It is special when people let you into their home. We are so lucky to be able to see one another. Please be mindful of what you say and how you are saying it, so we will be invited back. We want everyone to feel safe in this new environment.

Helpful Resources:

*NASA Space Place-A great resource to explore planets and all things space.

Please know that we are here to answer questions and provide support. We will share your frequently asked questions here. We miss your children and their smiling faces. Send us a photo or two of your home learning activities via email.  Enjoy Day 3!

Frequently Asked Questions(Either ones that were asked, or that you might want to ask!):

*Can I used Lexia on the iPad?

Yes, you are able to do so, but you will need to download the Clever app and log into Clever.

Absolutely!  Give them breaks as needed.  This is a new platform for them so they will need to build their stamina in this environment.

*Will there be lots of hiccups and glitches along the way?

Yes, Absolutely!  And when they do just reach out to us.  We can't thank you enough for your patience!
