Did Your Child(ren) Travel Outside of California Recently? Do They need to Quarantine?

Message Update/Please Note: The Daily Pass asks you to agree to a declaration of travel stating, "I have not traveled outside of California in the past 10 days." This declaration refers to unvaccinated residents of CA. Please read the entire Daily Pass and fill it out accurately for the health and safety of all of Open School. Please do not send your child to school for the next seven days if they traveled out of the state.

The message below was sent out in Thursday's Backpack on 5/27/21. Please read below if you have not already read it.

Dear Open School Families,

We know that this is the time of year, when the weather warms and trips become more abundant. We are getting word from families that they will be traveling before the school year is out. In an effort to keep our community safe, if your child is attending school in-person, we need to know if your child is traveling outside of California. Please know that according to the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health, if an unvaccinated person leaves California, they will have to quarantine for seven days after returning home. LAUSD and Open School are following these protocols, and before your child will be allowed to return to school, they will need to quarantine for 7 days and have a negative COVID-19 test taken within 3 to 5 days after returning to California. We appreciate your cooperation and you preventing COVID-19 at Open School.

I also want to stress, that although we have online classes, they are not intended for the purpose of accommodating vacation travel schedules. Our teachers are working hard to create a safe and consistent virtual school experience for the online students. It is disruptive to have students fluctuate between learning models. If you have opted for in-person learning Open School is in no way obligated to adjust our classroom groups, set-up and schedules to accommodate family travel. Please be considerate of our teachers and the virtual students.

In partnership,

Antoinette
